When New Website Copy Doesn’t Just Transform How Your Clients See You; It Changed How This Nutritionist Sees Herself
When wellness, skin and beauty professionals come to me for website copy, they're usually focused on one thing; standing apart from their competitors so their best fit clients immediately see why they’re different.
But something else often happens too. The repositioning to dig into what makes you different doesn't just change how potential clients see you.
It often changes how you see yourself, especially if you think you’re just one of many practitioners who do similar work.
This is exactly what happened to my nutritionist client after she decided to work with a website copywriter who specialises in helping nutritionists and other wellness, beauty and skin practitioners to tap into what makes them stand apart from competitors.
She told me she now feels proud of herself and her business after she can see it reflected in her new website positioning.
The Quiet Confidence Problem
If you’ve been in business for a while and never fully owned what makes you different, Imposter Syndrome can feel loud.
You can easily feel that your services are similar to your competitors and there’s no big reason to choose you over one of them.
So when you sit down to write about yourself, you subconsciously revert to the same ‘safe’ language as everyone else.
Because from the inside, you can't quite see the differentiators.
The specific things that make your practice genuinely different have become so embedded in how you work that you’ve stopped registering them as differentiators at all.
Why You Feel the Same as the Competition
If you've ever looked at your competitors' websites and felt the recognition that your messaging sounds similar and that a potential client comparing you side by side probably won't immediately see a clear reason to choose you, I want to offer you a reframe.
You don't feel the same as the competition because you ARE the same.
You feel the same as the competition because you've inadvertently positioned yourself to SEEM the same.
There's a critical difference between those two things.
Your positioning is a choice, even when it's an unconscious one. When you write about your work in the safe, generic language that fills the wellness space, you're making a positioning choice to blend in.
You're subconsciously choosing to describe yourself in the same terms as everyone else and to occupy the same generic middle ground that makes direct comparison easy and differentiation invisible.
And on the flip side, you can choose positioning that makes direct comparison very difficult because your USP puts you in a category of one rather than blending into the competition.
The latter is the premium positioning I bake into my website copy packages.
It’s what made all the difference for my client, Sophie, after she worked with a website copywriter who specialises in helping wellness, beauty and skin practitioners to stand out and get more enquiries from their website.
What Happens During the Repositioning Process
The work of repositioning a wellness professional's website starts with research and digging deep into what makes you different.
Before a word of copy is produced, I spend time going deep into what makes your practice genuinely different.
And I look closely at the messaging and positioning of your competitors to make sure you’re definitely going to stand apart.
This process requires asking questions most practitioners haven't been asked before and it forces you to think differently about your business.
That reflection often starts to build real pride in what you’ve built, even more so when it turns into messaging and positioning that positions you differently to the competition you’ve secretly felt inferior to.
The Moment the Shift Happens
There's a moment in almost every website project when I can feel the shift happening.
It's the moment a practitioner reads back the positioning I've extracted from our work together and something changes in her self perception.
Sometimes it's a simple: "I didn't realise that was something worth saying."
Sometimes it's a variation of: "this is what I've been trying to say for years and I couldn't find the words."
Sometimes it's a message that says "I cried reading this, I didn't know my work could be described this way."
What I'm witnessing in those moments isn't someone reading ‘better’ copy about their business.
It's someone seeing their business and themselves clearly for what might be the first time. Just like Sophie did.
Because the repositioning doesn't just create better marketing. It creates a mirror of the value that has been there all along but was largely invisible because nobody had helped to surface it and articulate it.
You Stop Being "Just Another" Anything
This is the part of the work that I don't talk about enough and that clients consistently tell me was the most unexpected part of the experience.
They came for better enquiries but they stopped undercharging because they now had positioning that set them apart from the ‘norm’ and allowed them to charge more.
They stopped seeing themselves as just another nutritionist, just another massage therapist, just another facialist in a market full of them.
They started seeing themselves as someone who occupies a category of one, just like their potential clients do when they land on their new website copy.
