Why Your Website Copy Isn’t Bringing In Leads

If your website isn’t bringing in qualified leads, it may be time to look again at your website copy and see if you’re making any of these mistakes.

Your copy isn’t positioning you as an authority

Building trust and authority is a huge part of getting potential clients to buy from you. Empathy plays a key role here and showing that you understand the problems they’re facing and where they want to be in the future.

Not enough copy

Google likes website pages to have a certain amount of copy - typically at least 300-400 words.

There’s logic to this since more copy gives more opportunity to include keywords that will help you to be found by potential clients and more of a chance to build that all-important connection and trust after the click.

If you’ve only got minimal copy on most or all of your website pages, it can hurt SEO and engagement when potential clients visit your website.

It’s incredibly difficult to hit on enough of the copy psychology that will build trust and empathy if you have very little copy across your website.

Ineffective CTAs

Whether you want potential clients to be able to book a discovery call directly from your site or submit an enquiry form first, choose one call-to-action for most pages of your website. Your CTAs don’t need to be clever unless this is a big part of your brand. Being clear and concise can be much more effective for getting that all-important click and action.

The exception is the homepage, which can have multiple calls-to-action as the ‘shop window’ of your website.

Poor or non-existent meta descriptions

The copy in your meta descriptions helps Google to index the various pages on your website (including blog posts). It often shows up in search results and is the first thing that people see when they’re going through search results.

In other words, meta description copy can make or break whether you get clicks to your website.

If your meta descriptions don’t include keywords or you haven’t added any copy at all for them, it can be a big factor in why you’re not getting traffic to your website.
