Are You Making Any of These Email Marketing Mistakes?

As an email copywriter who specialises in email copy for nutritionists, wellness coaches and therapists, there are a few email marketing mistakes that I see time and time again.

Making even one or two of these mistakes makes it much harder to get the ROI that email can bring and they likely mean that you’re finding it difficult to get potential clients through your email list

Being scared to sell

Your subscribers are warm leads. They want to hear from you and if you have a freebie funnel, you already know that they have a problem you can help them to solve. If you’re never selling to these hot leads, you’re missing a golden opportunity to get more clients.

Not being consistent

Consistency is key for getting opens and clicks and that means emailing regularly. I get it - emailing more than once a month can feel too salesy or pushy.

But the truth is this: it’s harder to build connections and get clients from your emails if you’re only emailing once per month. That’s a long time for people to forget about you in between emails. That’s not to say that you should be emailing every day. But there’s nothing wrong with emailing weekly or even twice per week, especially if you’re offering genuine value in your emails.

Not having an opt-in/freebie to drive more sign ups

A freebie funnel doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as a freebie and 3-4 emails that build a relationship with your new subscribers. But having a freebie funnel themed around a big pain point that your audience has makes it a lot easier to get qualified leads (aka those who are more likely to become clients) on your email list.

Not sending welcome emails

Even if you don’t have a freebie funnel in place right now, you’ll still want to have welcome emails that create a stronger connection with your new leads. Welcome emails tend to be the highest opens so you’ll definitely want to make the most of the interest and engagement you can build on at this stage in your relationship with new subscribers.

Not making the most of automation

There’s a big myth that automated sequences are impersonal and this couldn’t be further from the truth. They can build just as much connection as non-automated emails and for many of my clients, they actually build stronger relationships as these sequences are being sent at strategic points in the relationship. They’re a way to work smarter in building connections, nurturing and selling.

Not having a clear CTA

Maybe your emails don’t have a clear CTA to let your subscribers know what you actually want them to do after reading the email. Or maybe you’re trying to pack too many CTAs in and your subscribers are so overwhelmed that they don’t act at all.
